I have had 5 abortions. While I have not regretted any of those decisions, I have regretted the relationships and experiences that led me to each of them.
I am a highly educated (doctoral degree) and successful woman in her 40’s. It took me a long time to get the point now where I can truly say I love who I am and my place in the world.
Had I carried and kept any of those 5 pregnancies, my life would not have even resembled what I have now.
I was also on birth control (pill and condoms) for all 5 of those unwanted pregnancies.
I have been trying to get a tubal ligation since my early 20s and have been turned away from multiple physicians all staring a version of: “You’ll meet the right man one day and he might want kids.”
I will always support women’s right to choose abortion in any situation they find themselves in, but if the part of our country that is so opposed to that choice would actually allow women to sterilize themselves, multiple abortions would not be as needed by some of us.
